SSG awakening!

Nearly a year has passed, since i last published somthing on my blog here at wordpress.com. While i was working on other time consuming projects, a lot has happened in the world of SSG: Star Citizen finally released their first Dogfight Module. Elite:Dangerous has made a leap ahead and recently started the Beta Stage with a new space station. OCULUS RIFT has been bought by Facebook. Some companies are struggling with their finance as usual and everyone is asking if Free-2-Play is the way to go.

But most important: as we can see (@Kickstarter or anywhere else) more and more Space-themed games are upcoming, i am confident, that my gut feeling eventually has not proofen me wrong: Space Sim games and an entire follow up of space-themed games and applications are en route to gain back lost terrain! 🙂

No Mans Sky, Dreadnought, Space Enigneers, Starbound, SpaceEngine .. only to name a few of those.

So, i’ll need some time to update my blog in order to incorporate all those new titels – especially the new subgenres of Space- or Spaceship-themed games (like Space Engineers, Dreadnought etc.).

Your feedback IS very welcome! 🙂

cheers,
Christoph aka “Hummel”

Remembering the heroes: ATARI 2600

This has been my very own “first contact” with gaming: ATARI 2600 (+2 joysticks/pads + 4 games + hours of fun)

ATARI-2600-Edelmann-2013

Crazy enough: The first game i played on the 2600er and the one, i played most, has been a Space-Combat Space-Invacers clone named GALAXIAN (You can see its disk on the top middle).  I may have played this very simple top-down even longer than any other space game on my PC … combined hours!

So, eventually, with STAR CITIZEN  i am looking forward to break this record 😉

Remembering the heroes: first joystick

Look what i have found! 🙂

OKANO-Luxus-Analog-Joystick-IBM-PC-XT-AT

OKANO-Luxus-Analog-Joystick-IBM-PC-XT-AT

Sadly that’s only the box, but this joystick has seen and survived some serious Wing Commander and Space Sim/Flight Sim gameplay back in the (early) 1990ies. This has also been my first joystick for PC. Eventually the stick survived several hundred (or even thousands) hours of dogfights, close combat and big ship hassle until i switched to a more feature-rich Wingman-Extrem flight-joystick (because of seperate Throttle Control, fancy Head-Buttons and pre-flight software configs).  On the downside, those hightech successors didn’t have nearly half the sturdyness and endurance and therefor had a more limited lifetime,  than good ‘ol OKANO 😉 Kudos!
